Cancer is something that touches the lives of many people. Thankfully, advances in medical science mean that in many cases today it is possible to successfully treat the disease if diagnosed at an early stage.
Prevention is a crucial part of our philosophy at Double Check®. Regular check-ups not only help to identify your risks of developing cancer, but also substantially improve your chances of spotting cancer as early as possible. This can avoid the need for invasive treatments such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy, which can cause harmful side effects.
We provide comprehensive screening for common cancers. Our service includes second opinions and staging via our unique network of specialists. Sadly, despite growing knowledge, cancer remains one of the world’s biggest killers, with an estimated 21 million new cases annually. We aim to offer you the peace of mind of knowing that our experts are checking to identify the early indicators of any issues.
Risk factors and types of cancer
A range of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, and medical history, all influence the risk of cancer. Unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, smoking, and changes in reproductive patterns, can increase the likelihood of the disease.
There are many different forms of cancer, but the disease is usually characterised by a pathological proliferation of abnormal cells, a process that typically starts in a single cell. Common types of cancer include cancers of the lungs, liver and stomach; colonic or rectal cancer, breast cancer, oesophageal (throat) cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, blood cancer (leukaemia) and various skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma.
