We have your health at heart

What is a heart attack?

Heart attacks occur if the flow of blood to the heart is blocked, thereby depriving the heart of oxygen. If this situation continues, the part of the heart which has been deprived of blood begins to die.

Will I know if I have had a heart attack?
Although you may imagine that someone would clearly know whether they had experienced a heart attack or developed severe heart problems, this is often not the case. Many people who are at risk of, or are already affected by, cardiovascular disease often do not experience any symptoms for a long time. Consequently, personal risk assessment and clarifying examinations are rarely performed until they visit a doctor after the symptoms of heart problems have occurred, such as chest pain or shortness of breath. Certain early symptoms of heart problems, such as chest or back pain, can easily be mistaken for everyday aches and not recognised as the early signs of an oncoming heart attack. Similarly, many individuals with heart failure or heart valves malfunction misinterpret their shortness of breath as part of the ageing process.

Detecting heart problems: early warning signs of cardiovascular disease
Our cutting-edge diagnostics allow us to detect even very small changes in the blood vessels long before any symptoms of heart problems occur. It is extremely important to have the health of your heart regularly monitored and, if early warning signs are detected, to intervene with appropriate preventive measures before heart disease or a heart attack becomes a reality.

He has also completed in-depth training in cardiovascular physiology and cardiology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., USA.

Double Check® guarantees that our team always takes the time to answer all your questions and make you feel at ease with any concerns you may have. Understanding and complying with your treatment is an incredibly important aspect of recovery, so we make this our absolute priority. Whether you visit us for a health check-up, for diagnostics or for treatment and aftercare of diagnosed cardiovascular diseases, you can rest assured that we will fully explain every detail of your diagnosis and therapy. By identifying and treating the early symptoms of heart problems, we offer you the best way to avoid heart diseases and heart attacks.

The treatment of cardiovascular diseases encompasses three key points:
1. Preventive health checks, including a calculation of your personal cardiovascular risk score
2. Diagnostics of nonspecific discomforts, and
3. Treatment and aftercare of manifested cardiovascular diseases

Essentially, this involves the following three steps:

1. What is your risk of having a heart problem or heart attack?

A very important approach to preventing cardiovascular disorders is an efficient and in-depth health check. That includes a careful study of your personal and family medical history, a clinical examination with measurement of your blood pressure cholesterol and blood sugar as well as your physical fitness, and – depending on your risk profile – additional tests. With this information at hand, your individual risk can be correctly assessed and, if needed, a personalised therapeutic intervention plan can be developed to deal with any existing symptoms of heart problems.

2. Do you already suffer from unexplained discomfort?

Chest pains, irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, swelling of the legs or a sudden loss of energy and other symptoms can all suggest an existing cardiovascular disorder. Professor Lüscher’s clinic offers the widest range of diagnostic options that use next-generation technology, including high-resolution imaging, non-invasive diagnostics, state-of-the-art sonography and computer tomography (CT) scans of the cardiac system. The combination of such cutting-edge techniques offers an unparalleled depth of information which help us to diagnose any heart problems most efficiently and precisely.

3. If you have already been diagnosed with a heart condition

With Professor Lüscher’s wealth of experience and our unique network of specialists, we can provide you with the very best care for your ongoing diagnostics, treatment, therapy, and aftercare.
