Professor for orthopaedic surgery
Dr Romero is a Swiss Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and was a research fellow in arthroplasty and biomechanics at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, and in tissue engineering at Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, USA. He also obtained a degree in epidemiology from the School of Hygiene and Public Health at The Johns Hopkins University. Dr Romero then specialised in knee surgery and became head of the knee division at Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich, where his research contributed to the fields of knee biomechanics, total knee arthroplasty and patellar disorders. He then joined the highly specialised group of orthopaedic surgeons at Endoclinic Zurich and performs surgery in the private clinic of Hirslanden. As a orofessor at the University of Zurich, he is a devoted teacher for medical students. His clinical expertise is minor and major knee injuries, arthroscopic interventions, complex ligamentous and bony reconstructions, joint-preserving procedures, and partial- or total-knee replacement. As head team physician of the Football Club Zurich, he has a broad experience with sports injuries in professional athletes. He is the president of the Swiss Knee Expert Group, which forms part of the official Swiss Society for Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, and is a founding member of the European Knee Association, a subdivision of the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. His primary professional focus is to provide a pain-free and good-functioning knee joint care for his patients.
